Is it Safe to Travel?
Some countries have started opening their borders to allow international travellers despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them have imposed the necessary precautions to control the spread of the virus, such as a negative COVID-19 test before travellers depart their home country and mandatory quarantine after arrival.
Despite these precautions, the desire to travel has not gone away. According to our recent survey, more than 60% of respondents will travel again as soon as border controls are relaxed. This indicates that people are still looking for ways to travel safely during the pandemic. Which begs the question:
If you do choose to travel, how can you do so safely?
1. Check the government’s travel advisory
Before you start planning your trip, it is important that you check the government’s travel advisory and follow its advice. You should assess all factors such as possible extra costs and quarantine risk to determine whether you are comfortable with travelling abroad.
If the risk is too high, why not travel domestically? Malaysia have many hidden gems waiting for you to discover and explore. If you are not sure, check out our destination guide here!
2. Look for destinations and tourism operators who implement strict safety guidelines
One way to ensure your travel activities and accommodations are relatively risk free is to look for destinations and operators that are committed to following the safety protocols. Many companies have gone to their website or social media to highlight the efforts they have taken. However, this does not mean the risk is entirely eliminated. Many factors are in play, and you as a traveller must also take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure a safe trip.
In Malaysia, all businesses, small or big, are subject to strict guidelines and measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Express Rail Link, which is the operator of KLIA Ekspres, is one such example of an operator doing our part in minimising the risk to our customers. Watch our safety video here.
3. Seek out destinations where COVID-19 numbers are low
Some countries remained unaffected by the pandemic, which makes them attractive as a travel destination. However, it is important to always comply with the safety regulations in place wherever you go. Explore activities with a relatively low level of risk and avoid crowds whenever possible.
